Abstract

Currently, the number of wells operating with a high water cut is growing every year. This leads to a decrease in the profitability of operating oil fields, since the time and energy costs for processing well products increase, and the amount of oil at the output decreases. Thus, optimizing the operating mode of wells in order to reduce water cut by transferring them to periodic mode is one of the key tasks to increase the productivity of oil field development. Oil fields at a late stage of development are characterized by a decrease in oil production volumes and an increase in water cut in well production, as well as a deterioration in the structure of reserves. Residual oil production under difficult conditions plays an important role in maintaining overall field productivity. Low-yield wells can be used to additionally recover oil that was previously unable to be produced during the initial development of wells. In addition, the operation of low-yield wells at a late stage of development makes it possible to reduce the cost of drilling new wells. This article is devoted to the study and updating of this issue. Work continued on the study of converting wells from constant to periodic mode in order to increase technological development indicators, such as reducing the volume of produced water, reducing the specific energy consumption per ton of oil produced and increasing the turnaround time for installing an electric centrifugal pump. An analysis of well operation in constant and periodic modes was carried out for the conditions of the Surgut field. It is shown that transferring the well to periodic mode will reduce the cost of electricity consumption.

Article outline

Currently, the number of wells operating with high water cut is growing every year. For this reason, the profitability of oil field exploitation is reduced. More and more time and energy are being spent on processing well products, and the output is less oil. Thus, optimizing the operating mode of wells in order to reduce water cut by transferring them to periodic mode is an important task for increasing the productivity of oil field development. Oil fields are at a late stage of development, which is characterized by a decrease in oil production volumes and an increase in water cut in well production, as well as a deterioration in the structure of reserves. Instead, existing equipment can be used to extract the remaining oil reserves. Various properties of formations and oil affect the performance of a well in the final stage of development, which can lead to downtime and repairs. Optimizing the operation of low-yield wells is a pressing problem in modern oil production, since they often require repairs due to various problems. When properly operated and managed, wells can increase a company's revenue and improve its financial position. In such conditions, it becomes increasingly important to develop technological solutions that will improve the efficiency of residual oil production under the condition of its water-free operation. This is a task that requires an integrated approach and the use of many innovative developments in the field of oil production.

Methodology: the authors of this article continued work on the study of transferring wells from constant to periodic mode, in order to increase technological development indicators, such as reducing the volume of produced water, reducing the specific energy consumption per ton of oil produced and increasing the turnaround time for installing an electric centrifugal pump . For this purpose, an analysis of the operation of wells in continuous and periodic mode at the Surgut field was carried out.

Findings:

  1. the production rate of oil wells in periodic mode is on average 9.6 tons per day, while the specific electricity consumption per ton of oil produced is 17.1 kW/t. Identical indicators for wells operating in constant mode are respectively 11.4 tons per day and 31.2 kW/t. Considering these figures, it follows that wells operating in periodic mode produce on average 1.8 tons per day less, but at the same time, the specific energy consumption is reduced by 1.8 times compared to the constant mode of well operation.;
  2. the turnaround period for wells operating in periodic mode is 1549 days, in a constant mode - 854. The increase in MCI occurs 1.8 times.

Value: transferring the well to periodic mode will reduce the cost of electricity consumption. This approach will save oil companies financial resources on electricity consumption costs.
